Stages Of Webtoon Readers And How To Tell Which One Are You?

As webtoon is gradually becoming mainstream as time goes by, it is undeniable that it could rival anime and manga in terms of popularity and quality despite its recent start and surge in popularity. If you’re a webtoon reader, it would be fascinating to know how long you’ve come as a fan and to know which stage are you now. Moreover, these stages will definitely relate to you in some way. And remember, these stages do not apply to all fans but it pertains to a huge percentage of the fans.

  1. Webtoon Casual/ Beginner

Everything has a beginning. Usually, in this stage, you are an anime fan trying to widen your scope of entertainment. Most fans in the community are trying to explore and find any kinds of entertainment they consume similar to anime and manga. And this is how the world of Webtoon welcomes them. They are introduced to a totally new world of entertainment and get surprised by the insane amount of different titles they can enjoy. But usually, they initially read mainstream and gateway titles as a trial if they will become full-pledged webtoon fans or not depending on their preference.

2. Exploration and Discovery Phase

This is when people genuinely enjoy the webtoons after reading a few. But this doesn’t satisfy them and they will crave more titles to read and enjoy. Hence, this is the start of their exploration and discovery of non-mainstream titles to read. What they usually do is ask or search for recommendations, explore the community and know their tastes, and start reading different genres.

3. Multitasker Reader

After knowing that there are myriads of titles to read in the world of Webtoon, they realize that they don’t have enough time to read all of the recommendations especially when the titles have vast amounts of chapters. However, this doesn’t stop the passionate readers to read them all because this is where they learn how to fully optimize their reading by multitasking. And because webtoons are essentially made to read for mobile devices, this will only give them more options to multitask. It’s only up to your strategy on how to do it.

4. Source Material Reader

A huge number of webtoons are adapted from light novels and web novels. If ever your favorite webtoon left you on a cliffhanger, needing more chapters, or you need to know the story in advance, this is where you start to read their source materials but these are in words. But if ever you prefer to just read the webtoon only, it’s recommended to avoid source material readers in your online community because they might spoil you for some reasons.

5. Webtoon Veterans/Connoisseur

You’ve read enough webtoons to finally differentiate what’s bad, mediocre, and good. You are able to objectively describe the quality of the webtoons you’ve read. When there are new webtoon titles coming, you can usually tell immediately the overall quality in less than 5 chapters. These are the type of people whom you can ask for recommendations and they can guarantee you that you’ll them.
